J-HAP Holiday Events

Darkaynu has partnered with J-HAP (Jewish Housing and Programming), to create social events to learn about the Jewish lifecycle. Participants and residents enjoy rich cultural experiences through interactive activities and engaging guest performances.

Finally, for the first time since March 2020, we were able to provide some in-person programming for the holidays. During the beginning of Covid we did our holiday events over Zoom, but in September 2021 we were ready for an occasional indoor, socially distanced, masked event. Our first event centered around the High Holidays so we made challah for Rosh Hashana, centerpieces for Sukkot, and shana tova cards for residents in the Shalom Home. We then had a really fun performance with Shana Eisenberg and our participants got all into the singing and dancing! The success of our first event led to higher participation at our most recent Chanukah event, where we made decorations, candles, played dreidel and were enthralled by Norm the Magician. Of course, no Chanukah event would be complete without latkes and donuts so we noshed on our favorite Chanukah foods. Overall, we were all so grateful to be able to celebrate the holidays in a meaningful and fun way.
