Welcome to our Student Support Journey! We believe that every Jewish child deserves a rich and meaningful Jewish education throughout the entirety of their Jewish learning. At Sha’arim + Gateways, we’re here to help make that a reality!
Sha’arim + Gateways partners with a number of Twin Cities Jewish educational programs, starting as young as Preschool and following through High School, to provide support for students with extra learning needs and/or classroom support. Our goal is to make our services as accessible to as many students as possible. There are a few ways to access Sha’arim services for your child or student. Take a look at our student support journey to find the access point that is right for you:
Here’s how you can access our services for your child:
Step 1: Getting Started
- Parents can share student needs with their educational program prior to the start of the school year, or as they become aware of it throughout the school year. If you’re not sure if your school of choice is a Sha’arim partner, you can check our partner page here, or reach out to us directly here.
- Our partner schools may be able to identify areas of need or support as students spend more time in their classrooms. If your child’s school believes they could benefit from our support, they’ll get in touch with you to start the process.
Step 2: Choosing Support
- Educational/Academic – Learners may meet individually or in small groups with a Sha’arim instructor to help them achieve their learning goals. Sha’arim may also provide oversight and curriculum support to classroom teachers on behalf of students.
- Social/Behavioral – Sha’arim will help develop a plan to help your learner have a successful social experience in their educational setting.
- 1:1 – Some learners need a little extra time in the day to take a break or share their thoughts. Sha’arim support can help create a schedule that works best for your child.
- Classroom infrastructure support – Classroom teachers, assistants, and advocates all have the chance to benefit from Sha’arim training, consultation, and direct guidance that helps them create the best classroom environment for learners of all kinds!
- We will meet as a team, including parents and school representatives, to decide which type of support would work best for your child.
Step 3: Implementing Support
- To begin Sha’arim support you will first meet with school administrators and our specialists to discuss your child’s needs and create a support plan tailored to them.
- Parents/Guardians fill out a registration form to allow Sha’arim to provide and/or oversee support.
- We’ll keep you updated on your child’s progress and any changes to the plan.
Step 4: Staying Connected
- Your school representative will receive weekly updates on your child’s progress from their Sha’arim specialist.
- If there is ever a need to change your child’s support plan, we will meet to discuss how best to support them.
- You can ask your educational program administrator to put you in touch with their Sha’arim specialist.
We’re here to support you and your child every step of the way. Don’t hesitate to reach out – we’d love to chat with you!
